The FA’s previous partnership raised £500,000 in aid of mental health campaign Heads Together.
The Alzheimer’s Society will be The Football Association’s official partner for the next two football seasons, with volunteer positions and upskilling being offered to The FA’s employees to open a channel of communication between fans affected by dementia and employees helping them remain connected to the sport.
The aim is to use the sport’s reach to increase support and generate significant funds and awareness of dementia.
The FA’s previous partnership, which was with mental health campaign Heads Together, raised £500,000.
We hope to raise at least this amount (£500,000) to make a real difference to people affected by dementia
The partnership was launched at the FA Community Shield match between Leicester City and Manchester City on Saturday the 7th of August at Wembley Stadium.
The partnership is to be a mutually beneficial exchange as it comes amid increased scrutiny of the link between dementia and heading footballs.
The arrangement will also help to provide awareness among football fans and employees, create a network of dementia friendly facilities and upskill The FA employees so people living with dementia and their families can remain connected to the sport.
The arrangement will help ensure The FA and local football clubs around the country can refer employees, players, former players and fans to the charity for dedicated dementia support, while raising greater understanding of the condition among the football community.
As the general understanding of the condition is increased within the community, the support and services available to those affected by dementia will be raised along with it.
Together, we can help ensure that millions of football supporters and their families know our services are here, change how fans and players receive support and create a dementia-inclusive industry, so people with dementia can continue to remain part of the game. Together, we can showcase the power of football to change lives for the better.
